Job Description

Reports To: Farm Manager / Maintenance Supervisor

The Farm Driver also assists with general farm duties as needed.

• Transportation: Safely operate trucks, vans, or other farm vehicles to transport pigs to market, other farms, or processing facilities. Transport feed, medications, supplies, equipment, and personnel as required.
• Biosecurity: Strictly adhere to all biosecurity protocols to prevent the spread of diseases, including vehicle sanitation, disinfection procedures, and designated routes. Maintain accurate records of vehicle washes and biosecurity measures.
• Animal Welfare: Handle animals humanely and with care during loading, transport, and unloading, minimizing stress and injury. Ensure proper ventilation and temperature control within transport vehicles.
• Vehicle Maintenance: Perform routine vehicle inspections, including checking fluids, tires, lights, and brakes. Report any mechanical issues promptly to the Farm Manager. Maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles, both inside and out.
• Record Keeping: Maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, deliveries, and any vehicle maintenance performed.
• Farm Assistance: Assist with other farm duties as needed, such as feeding, cleaning, maintenance of facilities, and other tasks as assigned by the Farm Manager.
• Compliance: Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations, and company policies regarding vehicle operation and safety.
• Communication: Communicate effectively with farm staff, supervisors, and external contacts.
• Loading/Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of pigs and other materials, ensuring proper handling techniques.

Qualifications/Requirements

Qualifications:

• Valid commercial driver's license (Code 1,2,3,8)
• Proven experience in driving trucks and other vehicles, preferably in an agricultural or livestock setting.
• Knowledge of animal handling and welfare practices, specifically with swine.
• Understanding of biosecurity protocols and procedures.
• Ability to perform basic vehicle maintenance.
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
