Tax and Compliance Officer

Job Description:

The Tax and Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring the organization’s compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations, as well as maintaining proper accounting and financial reporting practices. This role involves the preparation and submission of timely and accurate tax returns, the development and implementation of compliance controls, and close coordination with auditors and regulatory bodies.

The officer also plays a vital role in budget preparation, financial forecasting, and tax planning to optimize the company’s fiscal strategy.

Job Responsibilities:

Taxation & Compliance
  • Prepare, review, and file accurate and timely tax returns for individuals, corporations, and partnerships in full compliance with BIR regulations.
  • Handle all tax types including Income Tax, VAT, Expanded Withholding Tax, Compensation Tax, and Final Tax (monthly, quarterly, and annual).
  • Manage the tax compliance obligations of multiple entities, ensuring that all local, national, and regulatory deadlines are met.
  • Monitor compliance with BIR and other government regulations, and assess the impact of legislative changes.
  • Represent the company during BIR audits and investigations; prepare required documentation and reconciliations in response to Letters of Authority (LOAs).
  • Provide strategic tax planning and advisory to minimize liabilities while ensuring full compliance with applicable laws.
  • Act as a liaison with the BIR and other relevant authorities.
  • Stay updated with changes in the Philippine Tax Code and ensure their proper implementation.
  • Maintain well-organized and confidential tax records and ensure proper documentation.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
  • Supervise and implement the company’s accounting policies, systems, and procedures.
  • Oversee accurate bookkeeping and the maintenance of financial records across multiple entities.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including budget variance analysis.
  • Assist in month-end closing activities such as accruals, depreciation, and amortization.
  • Review and validate product and inventory costs, including landed cost computation across entities
  • Support the forecast process and all other corporate financial reporting requirements.
Audit & Internal Controls
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure successful audit outcomes.
  • Conduct internal audits and compliance checks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support risk management by ensuring strong internal control systems are in place.
Collaboration & Administrative Support
  • Work closely with the Finance Manager, Regional Finance Manager, and Country Manager in providing administrative and financial support.
  • Provide financial data for hedging and cash flow planning.
  • Assist in training and supervising accounting personnel as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related field.
  • Must be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
  • Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in taxation, financial reporting, and compliance.
  • Proven experience in tax accounting, tax audits, and handling BIR-related matters.
  • Strong knowledge of Philippine tax laws, BIR procedures, and compliance regulations.
  • Familiarity with National Revenue and Local Tax Codes.
  • Sound understanding of Philippine Accounting Standards (PAS).
  • Experience with financial planning, analysis, and internal audit procedures.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of SAP is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure while maintaining professionalism.
  • Strong ethics and ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
