Position Summary:
As a Canada Sr. Payroll & Tax Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering all aspects of the biweekly payroll service for various business units across North America and Canada. Under the guidance of the GBS Payroll Manager, the position will assist in managing the relationships with outsourced payroll providers ensuring cost efficiencies and payroll processes being undertaken.You will work closely with local management, HR, Audit and Finance teams to deliver on your responsibilities, ensure policy and legislation compliance, and deliver high quality customer service using continuous improvement techniques, standalone projects, and leveraging best practice.
Responsibilities:
- Responsibility for the day-to-day processing of Canada Payroll & Canada Payroll Tax filing
- Access CRA for day-to-day Canada Tax inquiries
- Respond to Revenue Quebec inquiries.
- Submit tax filings for Canada provincial WSIB
- Per payroll funding reconciliation for Net pay and Tax
- Monthly payroll tie out for SOX compliance (North America)
- Year end T4 and RL1 processing
- Some data input
- Support the development and maintenance of a Payroll Operations Manual for US & Canada, detailing the full payroll workflow, including process workflow from Workday to Kronos system and back to Workday Payroll
- Keep up to date with all Canadian payroll and tax legislation and any changes to facilitate improved performance within the entire payroll workflow (Kronos/Workday) and any ancillary systems.
- Working closely with our outsourcing provider to review entries, reconciliations, and other month-end close related activities
- Document current Canadian Payroll and Payroll Tax processes, where they don’t exist
- Adhere to service level agreements (SLAs) set by internal customers.
- Support internal and external audits including preparation of audit support and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Manage, establish, and build effective relationships with key business partners as primary point of contact for all related programs, planning, reporting, and analysis.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new business processes and systems.
- Planning for operational changes arising from organizational change and/or efficiencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Background:
- Bachelor’s Degree or relevant associated degree.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in Canadian payroll tax filing or related position.
- Experience using Workday and ADP Smart Compliance applications.
- Microsoft Excel
- Some SAP experience preferred.
- Experience of managing customer relationships and resolving dissatisfied or difficult customer issues
- Ability to communicate across business units at all levels.
- Experience in a multi-national company
- Detail and deadline oriented.
- Demonstrable analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to take the lead on any new projects and implementations surrounding payroll
- Strong knowledge and understanding of US & Canadian payroll, tax and benefits
